According to sources, Siddaramaiah informed cabinet colleagues that he is ready to pass on the baton to DK Shivakumar and is likely to resign at 3 PM today. He is expected to later meet the Governor and formally submit his resignation.
DK Shivakumar is now likely to be sworn in as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka on Saturday.
The leadership change reportedly comes after intense lobbying and multiple rounds of discussions within the Congress high command. Sources say the decision has been taken in line with the power-sharing arrangement agreed upon after the Congress party’s victory in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections.
Official confirmation from the Congress leadership is awaited.
